In the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, and other shootings like it, the debate about guns and violence in American culture has become very serious.  Check out some of these videos, and tell me what you think.  Who is right?  What should be done?

  1. In my opoion they brought on the gun control a little to fast. I mean maybe not even 24-48 hours after the shooting happened they were talking about gun control let the families take in what happened. I think gun control is a good thing but anything subject you can get a little crazy, and this is one of the situations where it's a little out of hand. Sean Hannity is over dramatic anyways so that was interresting to listen to. I think something does need to happen but don't go all out and ban guns completly. I respect the fact they are trying to keep kids and families safe. I think guns should be banned to a point. Just don't go crazy and ban them completly....

  2. it's sad that it takes a bunch of little kids to be killed in order for these people to start a gun control policy. Where was this strong effort after the columbine tragedy? Or the shooting in the movie theater?? I only watched a few videos but I don't think banning guns will help. Maybe making them harder to get, or having a standard in order to get one will maybe help? idk. but still with that, like drugs, people are still going to be able to get guns "under the table" no matter what because there's always that someone who will sell it to them to make some cash. if you understand what i'm saying. Banning guns from psycho killers also means taking guns from the sane, just because one person might use it to kill doesn't mean everyone else is, some people are actually trying to protect themselves. if guns are eventually banned, people will eventually start using knives again or invent something worse, more damaging. In that case they may as well ban every dangerous thing on the earth if they want to "protect" us. There is danger everywhere , not just through guns.

    1. I agree with Hydia, on when she said that they have to have innocent little kids in a school. Or the massacre in Colorado, killing adults and young adults to start a gun law. I think they should've maid a law before guns were put on the market. Also Hydia, is correct about someone is always going to make some extra cashing the pocket. Hydia, has put some thought in her answer and I really like that. That's one reason why I'm responding. Great answer by the way. -Hannah

  3. I agree with what Hydia said in the beginning of her comment about how all of this had to happen in order to ban guns. It's really sad! However, I honestly don't think it will do anything. I think people will still find a way to get guns. Plus, in some cases a gun can be used for self defense!!! Maybe, it depends on the type of gun. But no, I don't think they should completely band guns. Agh, this is a really hard decision to be made. A gun can come in handy for self defense but it mostly abused by criminals

  4. I agree with Hydia that it shouldn't have taken the lives of little children and teachers for people to finally take action and put in a gun control law. I think a gun control law won't make much of a difference in some cases because people can and will be able to always find a way to get guns. I also think that if there going to ban guns, don't ban it completely because thats taking away a form of self defence.

  5. i think that gun control needs to happen. But not all guns taken away. We should have freedom when it comes to that. But i also think that there should be laws inforced about that.

  6. I think they should ban guns from the community and give it only to the military and the government. If we go through this act, this will cause less conflict and death rates in the country.

  8. i thing guns sshould be allowed to a certain extent for safety reasons but we need to be more precatious, I don't think they will be banned since according to the ammendents its a way of life and we have freedom and choice and liberty.

  9. I also like Andres, said that it's a freedom and you have a choice. In my opinion this topic is a two way street because my aunt has guns not to kill anyone just because but to have safety. If we completly ban guns then there will be no meat everyone would be practically vegetarians (except for fish). It may be good for the animals that we don't kill them but that would be diffrent not having meat. If we completly ban guns and only law enforcement people had them wouldn't that take away a lot of jobs? If you think about it someone has to kill the meat, then go through a factory etc.... That's just my opinion..... -Hannah

  10. Most gun violence is caused by suicide. Yes, the school shooting was very sad. That shouldn't revoke the right to own a gun to protect yourself. The amendment has been made.

  11. In my personal opinion, people should not be allowed to own guns because it brings more damage than security.
